Supriya Sule Denounces BJP’s Alleged Strategy to Finish Off Sharad Pawar Through Baramati Contest

Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) Supriya Sule has voiced strong sentiments against what she perceives as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ploy to politically undermine her father and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) founder Sharad Pawar by orchestrating a contest between her and her sister-in-law Sunetra Pawar in Maharashtra’s Baramati seat.

Sule, a three-time MP from Baramati, expressed deep disappointment over the labeling of the election as a ‘Pawar versus Pawar’ contest, deeming it ‘very painful’ and ‘uncalled for’. She remarked that the BJP’s motive behind fielding Sunetra against her is aimed at dismantling the Pawar family’s political stronghold and diminishing Sharad Pawar’s influence. Sule cited a senior BJP leader’s remarks after visiting Baramati, reinforcing her assertion regarding the BJP’s intentions.

Baramati, historically a Pawar stronghold, is witnessing a high-stakes battle following the NCP’s decision to nominate Sunetra Pawar against Sule. The seat, previously held by Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar, is scheduled for polls on May 7.

Sule expressed her dismay at the BJP’s inability to find a more suitable candidate to contest against her, emphasizing that the contest should not tarnish her respect and relationship with Sunetra Pawar, whom she regards as family. She reiterated her focus on battling the BJP rather than engaging in a family feud.

The contest in Baramati stems from the NCP’s internal divide last year, leading to Ajit Pawar aligning with the BJP and Shiv Sena. Sule characterized the situation as ‘painful’ and ‘uncalled for’, emphasizing that personal relationships should not be affected by political developments.

As Maharashtra gears up for Lok Sabha elections in five phases between April 19 and May 20, with results on June 4, Sule remains steadfast in her commitment to her party and her family values, calling for unity and respect despite political differences.
